The Artist

A sculptor working
across continents

Irakli Athoneli is a sculptor and stone carver based in Athens, Greece — originally from Georgia, and a graduate of the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, where he holds a Master’s degree in Sculpture and Fine Art.

His work spans marble, dolomite, granite, obsidian and mixed-media — from monumental public commissions to intimate portrait studies and works on paper. Each piece is rooted in the same discipline: the weight of material, and the patience required to let form emerge from it.

Works from his output are held in private collections across the United States (New York), Canada, Romania, Russia (Moscow), Greece, and Georgia.

The fortress never falls from the outside.
It falls the moment its gates are opened from within.
